Unfortunately, Rosie, prejudice lurks here. Ugly fact. That said, who knows what will be the deciding factor in this election? We certainly do not have much to choose from. Race seem to be the least important of all factors. None of the candidates will fully answer questions put to them, all hedge and avoid direct answers. Sara, I'm against abortion also. But, it is a big business and not likely to be eliminated as long as big business is a prime factor in our government. How many candidates from both parties have run at every level saying they oppose something and do nothing about it when elected? We do not get the person we elected as they change once in office. 17 people lobby compared to each elected official right now in Washington. They have huge power. Before this administration, I believed Congress was the key. But the Cheney/Bush combo has appropriated so much power and done so much wrong to our country, they've proven me wrong. Perhaps that will change with the elections. I doubt they will be held accountable for their crimes: Halilburton, for instance with no bidding and stealing millions of dollars - declaring war on a country not involved in 9/11 - not providing a proper level of care for returning injured military - giving this bailout to big business and allowing CEOs to profitwhen their greed caused the problem. One can follow liberal or conservative tv and continue to believe what they want, which most of us do. Or, they can research and learn what is happening, which most of us don't do. Once again, I will vote for the person who appears to be the lesser of two evils. And, I may be wrong. That has happened before. We live in a great country, which should be greater. We were founded on morals which seem to have gone astray as we reach for power and money. I wish one of the two candidates could turn that around. Please forgive my run on sentences and opinions. As, they are just that, my opinions. Thank God we live in a place where we can think and speak our beliefs.

back again, I hope...
Have not been able to post here, just blog. Today I see Pat has had the same problem; hope her way works. Am trying :)
We returned from AZ 6 weeks late as DH was in an auto accident April 2 and was not able to travel. His neck was broken at C2 and has not healed. Next week, he will have a bone scan to determine if there is cancer preventing the healing - or just if the cancer has spread to his bones. The outcome of that will determine the next step. Possibility that we may live in Seattle for treatment.
Am working on the yard, what an understatement. How did I spend my time when two of us did the yard? Thistles were 5' tall when we returned. Hired muscle who dug them and mow. With the kids' help, have been putting down weed mat and mulch. Hope this works. If not will be digging weeds on a daily basis. Not fun. All is planted and the bark is lovely beneath.
Am working on a circle quilt using the new acrylic templates in 3 1/2" and 7" sizes. Fun. Picked up some 40s reproduction fabric of Dick and Jane; love it. It will become tote bags for birthdays.
Being a caretaker is a new experience. Have learned to cut hair while he is in bed which is the only time the brace comes off and then only for bathing. (it fits below the waist to the ears like a suit of armor). Am becoming an expert on pulling on sox, tieing shoes, shaving...and many things that I never wanted to learn. But, am very happy that he is not paralyzed and that I am able to keep up.
Good to be back..

Good morning!
It is a beautiful one here, 90s forecast for the next week. Sunny and delightful as I've been working outside. Hired some muscle to attack the 4-5 foot tall thistles in all the beds when we arrived home. Now all are planted and looking good. Next job is weed matt and mulch. Funny how many quilters are gardeners, too.
The trip home was long and difficult for DH. We left early each morning and stopped by 2:00. Took an extra day to get here. The last CAT scan in Tucson showed no healing. The neurologist said surgery was not an option as his bones were too thin. Yet, he had not treated DH for osteoporosis. He said DH would be in the brace 'indefinitely'. The spinal clinic here said that diagnosis is inhuman - and we agree. DH has bruises on his abdomen from sitting while wearing it. Plus, the constriction makes it difficult for him to swallow or to breathe. We are waiting for complete medical records to arrive. The neurologist here said there is a possibity of a bone graft to stimulate bone growth and healing or an internal brace. We have hope again. C2 is a difficult break to heal.
I'm enjoying just being home. Working outside is a plus. Planted melons for the first time; canteloupe and watermelon. Will see what happens. All is growing fast with the good soil and weather.
Have met with the owners of the quilt shop that opened the week we left last fall. Am working on a proposal to teach for the next few months. Very happy about that!
Re hearing aids, love them. They don't feel like wearing something on the ears; mine fit deep inside and no one knows I'm wearing them but me. What a difference they have made. Love listening to music again. And, can hear the grandkids.
Blessing.
